Link & Learn Taxes

Link & Learn Taxes, linking volunteers to quality e-learning solutions, is the web-based learning program providing online training in tax return preparation available on IRS.gov. This site is available 24 hours a day allowing vounteers to select their ideal time and place for training.

Practice Lab is the 2009 electronic tax software that is integrated with Link & Learn Taxes to help with the certification process and practice return preparation. It will enable employees and volunteers to prepare returns from the workbook (Publication 4491-W) and complete test scenarios (Form 6744). First-Time Homebuyer Credit Extended to April 30, 2010
Some Current Homeowners Now Also Qualify

A new law that went into effect on November 6th extends the first-time homebuyer credit five months and expands the eligibility requirements for purchasers. The Worker, Homeownership, and Business Assistance Act of 2009 extends the deadline for qualifying home purchases from November 30, 2009, to April 30, 2010. Additionally, if a buyer enters into a binding contract by April 30, 2010, the buyer has until June 30, 2010, to settle on the purchase. A note from the IRS: “Taxpayers who claim the First-Time Homebuyer Credit on their 2009 tax return will not be able to file electronically but instead will need to file a paper return.” Returns prepared with Form 5405, First-Time Homebuyer Credit, can be prepared using TaxWise software, but cannot be e-filed since the taxpayer must submit their settlement statement as proof of purchase. Sites preparing these returns should ensure their site identification number (SIDN) is accurately reflected on the return to receive credit for the returns prepared.
