REI Tour Mission
The mission of the Real Economic Impact Tour is to channel asset development strategies, financial education and tax filing assistance into self-directed economic security for low-income working Americans with disabilities and their families. The REI Tour brings together over 200 organizations (federal, state and local) public/private partnership to advance this mission. The REI Tour works with local communities to provide workers with disabilities access to mainstream financial and tax services and promote self-determination, economic advancement and social well being.
REI Tour strategies for reaching low-income working individuals with disabilities in over fifty cities include:
- Build sustainable infrastructure in existing free tax coalitions that bring local disability and community-based organizations together to expand capacity to serve more working Americans with disabilities;
- Develop national asset building training and education materials for all stakeholders serving low-income tax filers with disabilities;
- Provide national audio conference series to all stakeholders on issues regarding accessible sites, tax provisions and credits, public benefits, and financial education and services;
- Provide information and access to customers with disabilities about banking services and products; and
- Deliver technical assistance to financial and professional organizations in the field of asset development to expand support to persons with disabilities.
