FACT OF THE MONTH

Households with disabilities are much less likely to save for unexpected expenses. Based on a 2015 survey, only 39 percent of household with disabilities saved for unexpected expenses or emergencies.

Your Financial Capability Roadmap 

During the month of April, National Disability Institute (NDI) is celebrating National Financial Capability Month. This observance, also commonly referred to as Financial Literacy Month, is a time for people to increase their knowledge of personal finances and encourage others to do the same. The theme of NDI's 2017 Financial Capability Month campaign is "Your Financial Capability Roadmap." Learn more.

Partner Spotlight

This month’s partner spotlight is ServiceSource Delaware’s FinanceABILITY program. The FinanceABILITY program assists persons with disabilities move towards financial empowerment by providing financial coaching and benefits counseling services. In collaboration with $tand By Me® a coalition of community partners, led by the State of Delaware and United Way of Delaware, ServiceSource FinanceABILITY program is supporting individuals with disabilities move up the economic ladder. Take Action

Challenge yourself to track your spending for an entire week. Use NDI's Spending Diary to take notes about everything that you spend money on throughout the week. When the week is over, evaluate your spending. Ask yourself: "Are there things that I am spending too much money on? What ways can I reduce my spending so that I can save more?"
