Upward to Financial Stability
The Upward to Financial Stability program has been developed by National Disability Institute and The Collaborative for the purpose of promoting financial wellness and fostering greater economic self-sufficiency for persons with disabilities. Passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in 1990 brought new hope and expectations about the possibilities of full participation in the workplace and community life for millions of individuals with disabilities and their families. Twenty-five years later, great efforts have been made to advance opportunities related to employment and independent living. Upward to Financial Stability, sponsored by the North Carolina Council on Developmental Disabilities, focuses on the development of “economic self-sufficiency” skills that support integrated, competitive employment and independent living.
