National Disability Institute's Michael Morris and Johnette Hartnett present at Second National Poverty Summit Back to news

National Disability Institute Executive Director Michael Morris and Director of Strategic Partnerships Johnette Hartnett presented on Sat., Sept. 22, 2012 at CFED's Second National Poverty Summit in Washington, DC. The National Poverty Summit gathers national thought leaders, experts, advocates, practitioners and volunteers to advance the work of poverty reduction nationally and globally. Morris and Hartnett led a session on Poverty and Disability with Melanie Stern, Program Officer for the National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions, a long-time National Disability Institute partner. Morris and Hartnett gave an overview why nearly 1 in 3 people with disabilities lives in poverty and experience a poverty rate nearly double the national average and among the highest of any underserved population in America. Morris and Hartnett shared National Disability Institutes innovative work from the Real Economic Impact Tour to new approaches to providing financial services and financial coaching to people with disabilities designed promote financial stability economic self-sufficiency for persons with disabilities and advance individual and systems change.
